When the studio was commissioned by John Lewis in 2011 to start working on a collection to capture the essence of the London 2012 Olympic Games, we looked to the past for inspiration. 1948, to be exact; the last time London hosted the Olympic Games.

Our inspiration came from a poster of that previous event showing a discus thrower in front of the Houses of Parliament. The discus shape became the basis for initial teapot designs and we developed the rest of the collection as a tribute to some of the best known Olympic sports.

In celebration of key Olympic events we referenced sports such as rowing where Britain had consistent success to provide design cues, inspiring designs such as the oar salad tongs.

Nicks brilliant friend Richard Palmer at The Workshop aided us in developing a unique packaging scheme – expertly made by hand in Sheffield along with the metalware.
